HARD LIVES AND GREAT GOALS

HARD LIVES AND GREAT GOALS

Dedicated to Becky Eastin

By her Aunt Cyndi Nightengale

May 1, 2009

When I first met this young girl,

Struggling, wounded and confused.

Cute and mysterious with hair of curls

I felt her hurt, her heart of blues.

She had been through so much,

But I could see deep inside,

This girl was very tough

And she would come through even with all the stride.

So now on this most historical night,

My heart is bursting with so much pride.

She finally grew those wings and took flight

And made us all see what she had inside.

So Becky with the love I hold in my heart for you,

For all the struggles, strife and grief

I knew eventually you would pull through,

I knew, but most of all you had the belief.

And as hard as it was to do, you grew in knowledge to shine true,

The times you were knocked down so low and hard.

Somehow with the Lord and your strength you knew,

The Lord would hold you tight and make of you a star.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
