Heartbeats In the Night

Heartbeats In the Night

My heart beats fast, I awake from this nightmare,
I look off into the darkness and stare.
Was the dream I just awoke from a reality,
Or just the deepest fear in me?

You are so far away I can't reach or touch you.
All of these sorrows and fears keep me blue.
I wait for the day you return. I hold onto it like I hold onto your tags.
Close to my heart...as close as can be.
I wait for the day they let you go and set you free.

Millions of miles have made us wonder.
Even though this has been happening I still love you.
This deployment has hurt us in so many ways.
But with you my heart stays.

No matter what happens I'm always there with you.
My love watches over, guides, and protects ever true.
With every breathe I take, every step I take....I'm only half here.
The pain of you being gone is in every tear.

They flow not because of any fault of your own.
It's because overseas you have flown.
I live every day for the day you come back.
My soul is broken, my happiness lost.
This deployment has had a great cost.

You will return in time.
And bind your life to mine.
Until that day I  pray.
Let them bring  you home safely.
Brings you home to me.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
