I'm Dying Inside, Empty Within

I'm Dying Inside, Empty Within

I fight to get to sleep without you here,
I awake with cold sweat and fear.
You are gone and I can't reach you.
I long to feel your loving arms.
Holding me tight to keep me safe.

From the day you left it feels like I'm gone.
I'm dying inside.
I'm empty within.
I won't be whole until you are back again.
The day they set you free,
Is the day I will fill with glee.
At least then I'll know you're with us for a lil while.
And I'll wake every day with a smile.

The memories we will make will span a lifetime.
I hold onto this faith like a lifeline.
Your love is what keeps me going.
I never knew love could be so strong.
But with you I found something I never imagined.
You stole my heart like no one else ever has.
No one else ever will or could have my heart the way you do.
Our love is what's going to get us through this time apart.

It's strong enough to overcome anything…
This I know with all of my heart.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
