In the Wake of Your Absence...
Sitting here in the wake of your absence…I'm surrounded by the memories we've made…
Your shirt lies there on the bed where you slept.
You left me because you had to…
I know you will return when they let you.
But still it hurts so much it's hard to bear…
I hear every song on the radio and it reminds of times we have shared.
Wonderful memories never to be forgotten…
Ones that are branded in my mind to get me past this loneliness…
I am loyal to you and everything you do.
You fight for the freedom of all of us…
You chose to turn your life over to the Army for a few years to help…
And now they have you and I want you back.
I know they won't have you forever…
And I know they can't tear down what we've built…
But I still want you here,
To be in your arms,
To fall asleep to the sound of your heartbeat…
It's the only life I know or want to know…
The emptiness is killing me.
There's a hole where my heart once was,
Because you took it with you on your journey.
That's ok though…
I wouldn't want it any other way.
You are the only man that has ever truly had it so why would I want to take it back…
I don't and never would!
It's yours forever and when you get back we'll show everyone.
I love you with all that I am and all that I'll ever be.
This house is not home without you…
I am not whole when you are gone…
I long to hear those three words: "I'm coming home"
I know it will be a while before I do…
But it's what I live for…
It's what I wake everyday and look forward to.
I wait for the phone to ring, you to get online, an email…
Any thing from you to stave off the burdens of daily sorrow.
