    Heartless

You crushed a gentle giant today.

    And you didn’t even care.

His heart was broken into a million tiny pieces.

Even if somehow they could be glued back together,

It would never, ever be the same.

Because there are pieces that were lost

    And can never be found.

There are even pieces that were destroyed.

So try as I might, his heart can never be fixed.

You did this. . . and it was no accident.

    It was with deliberation.

You knew what you were doing and still

    You tossed him aside casually

With no concern for his feelings.

You don’t realize today what you have lost.

    Oh, but someday you will.

Someday your heart will cry out for him,

Because someone has treated you so cold and callously.

Perhaps at that moment you will remember

And think that about what you have done.

    The devastation you have created.

    The heart you have broken.

There has never been a day since you were born

    He has not loved you.

His fight to see you and be with you has been long and hard.

Today, he is defeated by the one he has fought for . . . you.

Yes, there will come a day when the one

You think you can depend on now, will forsake you.

It’s coming like a runaway train and the one who truly loves you

Is powerless to stop what is to come.

    You have made your choice.

There never had to be a choice, but you decided to choose.

You were even encouraged to choose.

You will call out his name to rescue you

    Like so many before you.

God only knows whether he will be there or not.

How can you live without a heart . . .
