    Her Truth

Uncertainly, she gazes into the darkness,
Gathering courage to face her truth,
Chin tucked into the curve of an arm,
She tries to draw strength from the night.
    Time passes silently by,
Unseen by peering eyes, the pain builds,
    Memories too long repressed,
Are allowed to surface in her mind.
    Her hard-won courage wavers,
In the face of the painful presence,
The truth clear in her heart,
Halting the denial of her mind.
    She experiences an unequaled pain,
With a choice that must be made,
Acceptance comes hard, with a pleading heart,
The decision , far from any heart's desire.
