    Silently Waiting

    Her footsteps in the sand,
Deep in the dark of the night,
    Sheltered by the wakes,
    She waits as she dreams.
The fall of the waves gently touch her feet,
Silently she gazes out to sea,
Moonlit eyes reflect the sorrow of days gone by,
For hopes that used to be.
    Images flicker across the water,
    Awakening sleeping ghosts,
The voices heard in the breeze,
    Are but echoes of yesterday.
A golden light sweeps the sky,
Softly she rises to her feet,
    One last hopeful glance,
And she silently fades away into the night.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
