I have to let go

    Poem Commentary

It can be stressful, watching your child fulfill their dreams, even if it was in your plan.

    I have to let go

    She's leaving tomorrow.
    No more time to borrow.
    My heart's full of sorrow.
    I have to let go.

There's new things to do now,
    like saddle a moo cow,
and ride to the sun, how
    I have to let go.

There's nothing I ever could do in the past.
To alter this course and make it all last.
I love her so much that I feel like an ass.
I know that I have to let go.

She's coming tonight to say her goodbyes.
I have to advise, keep her eyes on the prize.
In the back of my throat I hear torturous cries.
I have to, I have to let go.

I have to let go. We both have to grow.
When she  says,  "I'll stay,"  I'll say,  "Don't."
Well, it will be slow, but in time it will show,
that I have to let go...
                                   ...but I won't.

Yes it is, but like you said ,we just have to learn how to Let Go and hope that they will use all the training we gave them as they proceed in life

very nicely done. I know that you are probably attached to the last stanza, but honestly, the poem is stronger without it. You might try the ideas of the last stanza in a new poem if you can't let it go.

Thanks for the critique, I've read it several times and I pretty much think I agree with you.

Letting go sometimes is not an action but a feeling. That you have captured

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
