I Was the One

I Was the One

I watched you walk away and was powerless to stop it.

I stood by while you destroyed my universe.

Everything I thought was mine, you took away.

You turned my world upside down

I trusted you to keep me safe.

I trusted you to protect me.

You turned out to be the one I needed protection from.

I would have never thought you hurt me.

I was blinded by your definition of what love is.

Now I'm the lost without anyone in the world.

I had to learn to love and trust the person I was taught to hate.

I had to disguise who I was and what I felt.

I was the one who hid from the world.

Afraid of anyone who could hurt me.

Because I trusted you and you betrayed me.

I was the one who was forced to feel unworthy.

I was the one who was always lost in a world where I couldn't love anybody.

Now I have to see you and feel that pain.

Now I am the one who is forever an eight year old.

I am the one who's destroyed every time you walk away.

And all I want is an apology.

All I want is what you will never give me.

This poem seems to be the start of a healing , and as long as the one who was hurt ,forgave, then they can move forward, then recieve and give healthy love...great write

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
