Insomnia

I stay awake

Like a never-ending nightmare

This insomnia I can’t escape

To feel the way I do everyday

Staring at the ceiling from the bed where I lay

To watch as my life passes me by

Everything feels better when you’re high

High on life and low on sleep

Each day blends into the next.

My heavy eyes never seem to close

And time feels like it has willingly froze

Because nothing matters anymore

My haunting demons stand at my door

Waiting…

For me to give up and cry and beg

And take me to another place.

But I choose to stay

To fight another day
And live in this sorrow
I hope I can sleep tomorrow

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
