LEGACY

LEGACY

WITH ONE HAND I HOLD YOU FAST
WITH THE OTHER, I SET YOU FREE.
I'VE INVESTED INTO YOU
WHAT WAS INVESTED INTO ME.

WHAT WAS RICH IN THE SOIL IN WHICH I GREW
I PASSED ON TO YOU THROUGH MY SEEDS.
KEEP THE FLOWERS FOR YOUR GARDEN;
DISCARD THE REST AS WEEDS.

AND IN THOSE TIMES WHEN YOU ARE NOT THINKING SO FONDLY OF ME,
IT'S O.K. BECAUSE IN MY HEART I KNOW THAT IN YOUR HEART YOU LOVE ME.

IF IT UPSETS YOU NOW THAT YOUR ACTIONS
MY ACTIONS MIRROR,
BE ASSURED THAT AS YEARS PASS
IT WILL ALL BECOME MUCH CLEARER.

EVERYTHING IS OLD, EVEN THAT WHICH SEEMS SO NEW.
MY BELIEFS AND IDEALS SWIRL THROUGH THE ROOTS OF YOU.
REWORK THEM NOW TO FIT YOUR NEEDS.
KEEP THE FLOWERS FOR YOUR GARDEN.
DISCARD THE REST AS WEEDS.

I enjoyed how you spin the morality wisdom here saying that somethings you do are merely reflections you've taken on from the other person you're talking to... But, also that not everything is worthy of holding onto... Keep the good, out with the bad.... Well done...

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
