LOOKING OUT OF ME

LOOKING OUT OF ME

As I look out of the windows of my cell
I see all the free people around me,
They seem so happy,
Without any troubles surrounding their life,
They ride about in their big fancy cars,
Always going somewhere with something to do,
They're people, just like you.

I wonder if they ever stop to rest
And look at the sun and moon, the stars and sky?
I wonder if they know what it is like to die
Or what life is beyond this one?
I wonder if they've ever been inside a prison cell
And looked out upon the world like me?
I wonder if they appreciate their freedom?
I wonder what it is like to be free,
To have no past to follow me?
I wonder if I would have any fun
Or would I get scared again and start to run?

Will I ever find a place made just for me?
Or will I be forever in hiding,
Forever deciding,
Whether or not to step outside my door
And close out my past forevermore?
Will my past forever be like a shadow
Sticking close to me?
I wonder who will meet my shadow
And who will get to meet me?
Is it possible they might see both of me?

How soon I wonder will I be free?
Or will I be forever
Looking out the window of a cell
That I built all around me?
