    Lost Spirit

I am a ghost in my own life
    The stranger still lives within
    Binding the crippled wings
Holding the blackness to the light
    Where nothing can escape
Years of memory in crumbling buildings
Sidewalks broken by gnarled tree roots
    Deformed branches of family
With the wicked heart of lies
I will fade in smoke and mist
    Leaving nothing but destruction
Taught to me from the beginning
As it was in the beginning
It will be through to my end
    Nothing given always fought for
    By a desperate night thief
Stealing each breath from my broken body
    Leaving nothing
    Not even shattered soul
    No wings to fly
    Grounded
    A lost spirit

I read this and I just want to hug you and remind you that you DO have a real existence, and your existence DOES make a difference to people around you. Sometimes other people get wrapped up in what's happening in their own lives, and they don't realize the pain they cause us. I'm not making an excuse for them; I'm asking you to remember they are not the only people in your life. And, pain may have a good side, if what comes of it is as expressive as this. But remember, you ARE loved.

    Thank you

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
