Lovers, not Friends

Lovers, not Friends

You are my love, my sweetheart
I share my bed with you
I share my life with you
We should be of one mind
But why can't I call you Friend?

I trust you with my life
Without you I am incomplete
Yet I am still reserved
To share all I am with you
Is just too frightening

Is it because of past mistakes I have made
Being too naive and too trusting
Or am I afraid of being hurt
Wounded soul that I am
We are Lovers, yet not Friends.

A good read. This is a situation, a lot of us have been in. Thank you for sharing.

There is some pain here, I feel and sadness at the reality of the relationship. Nicely expressed...

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
