    Poem Commentary

I had just seen my cousin only a week before, not knowing that he would eventually leave this world and us behind.

    Michael

    Michael

I saw you just the other day

You gave me a hand and went on your way

It was kind of you to lend a hand

    To give unto your fellowman

A good deed given you asked no pay

When I saw you just the other day

Who knew your time would come to pass

That God would call and yet alas,

You were going home to be amongst friends

That your life on earth would surely end

Thank you, is what I wanted to say

When I saw you just the other day

    The premonition later came about

That, you knew God would all you out

In a dream he told you, My word is fact

So you did your good deeds and you stayed on track

God said, “it is time for you to go home

To the place where you will now belong

Where the flowers bloom and birds sing songs

Where the stars are set in heaven’s stone

The sun shines, it’s always a beautiful day

And all of my children join to play.”

I’m happy and sad all at the same time

I know your soul is free to shine

Yet, sometimes I forget what life is about

I loose sight of things, and faith I doubt

So I get on my knees and I begin to pray

Forgive me for almost losing my way

    For the thoughts I have

    For the words I say

And thank you Lord, by the way

For the help you sent me

    Just the other day

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
