Poor Blind Man

    Poor Blind Man

    For her,

To speak the words, I love you

Ever so sweet and so kind

To a man who shares no love in return

Is to smile at a poor man

    Who is blind

He is poor for he is lacking

    God’s greatest gift of all

Unable to love or to be loved

He is the poorest of them all

    His sight is gone

    For he is blind

    Because he cannot see

That if only he could love her back

No poor blind man would he be

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
