    My Morning Prayer

    Early in the morning, first thing as I rise

    As sunlight filters thru the window into sleepy eyes,

    I think of all the blessings that the Lord has given me

    That warms my heart and joys my soul- I fall down on my knees.

    For waking up this morning, for another breath of life,

    For protection as I travel down this road of pain and strife;

    For dressing me in my right mind, for giving me a choice

    Of serving Thee in actions, and praising Thee with voice!

    For showing me forgiveness, for Your mercy and Your grace;

    For teaching me to live my life at a stronger, slower pace.

    For surrounding me with the love of both friends and family,

    For all these many blessings, Lord, I give thanks to Thee!

    Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
