My Sister

Poem Commentary

So different we are...like night and day...I'm the wild, carefree one, needing that manual on responsible adulthood that nobody ever gave us :) and she is the perfect child with the perfect stable life, organized beyond human possibility, ...you get the picture. However, she is the coolest of sisters, we share the same sense of humor, and have developed an amazing relationship over the years.

My Sister

Her greatest gift came early

How fortunate for me

Being blessed with patience

Sustained her sanity.

Destined to be her shadow

Albeit sunshine, clouds, or rain

I demanded full attention

Yet so seldom she’d complain

From the time that I was born

A single room we shared

Her pretence of mere endurance

No disguise for how she cared

She walked with me each morning

Down the paths of early life

Then embarked upon her journey

Devoted teacher, mother, wife

Tirelessly giving, her heart forgiving

She’s stood by me through all

Inspiring courage to reach new heights

Knowing she’ll be there if I fall

So many miles between us

So many times I’ve missed her

Ever thankful to be blessed

With such a special sister.

Dedicated to my sister, Cathy

Julie, I loved this familial poem of sisters and how you shared so much growing up. Your rhyme and meter are impeccable too. ginga

beautiful sentiments and very sincere and heartfelt, bravo! It is very apparent the purity of the love and the bond you share as sisters, it is truely a beautiful thing and something of grace. Funny thing is that as much as you think she has it all together, nobody is perfect in day and age, and those who seem perfect often live a life of illusion. Not saying that she lives in an illusion but on the inside, deep down, she may be more like you than you realize and just afraid to let it out. Just random thoughts for what they are worth, please take no offense. Purity of the soul, journey well!!! with grace and humility ANGEL

It'll be a gift she'll treasure forever and a day..........................g

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
