    Mysterious Smile

She walks from the mists of the imagination,
    stepping into reality like Aphpordite
    from the ocean.
    Her very presence an impossibility,
for with her she brings the
    possibility of pleasure the
likes of which you've never known.
    The mist surrounds her,
    seeming ready to take her
and all she holds back to the
    confines of the imagination
where she cannot fulfill the promises
    written in her eyes.
She steps closer to you and
on the wind and rain of a
    tormented mind,
    her scent flows,
the wild scent of the ocean and wind
    of a storm recently past.
Her eyes hold all the deep secrets
    of the ocean,
    mysterious and beguiling,
    eyes fathomless blue,
one could drown in such eyes.
And die with a smile eternaly
    fixed to their face.
The foam of the sea cloaks
    her nudity,
    tantilizing the senses with
    brief glimpses of glorious flesh.
    She smiles that mysterious smile,
    that promises everything,
    but offers nothing,
as the mist reaches out and slowly
    engulfs her,
pulling her back into the ocean
    of your imagination,
    where all her secrets are
    hidden.
Your eyes open and you sigh
as you realize it was only a dream.
    and you wonder,
when will I meet this woman that
    haunts my dreams,
buried so deep in my imagination?
    Does such a creature exist?
And the longing is so palpable,
you close your eyes and drift back
into the dream where she waits
    for you with open arms,
    and that mysterious smile.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
