ODE TO TUTU

ODE TO TUTU
This poem is for my beautiful kitty
Who was so very cute and so very witty
You came into my life a furry white ball
You were so small you’d stumble and fall
Your eyes were a gorgeous turquoise blue
And they were slightly crossed which was really cute too
Your little mouth was pink, as were your ears
As I think of you it brings me to tears
I have so many memories of you to share
Like the time you came to me with my underwear
You were always so scared and always so shy
You’d run and hide when people came by
But when we were alone you were always next to me
Making figure eights around my legs when I sat down to pee
Every morning you’d talk to me with your meows and your purrs
You’d jump on the toilet top so I could stroke your fur
When I watched T.V. you’d lay by my side
You were truly always my joy and my pride
Every night you’d take my socks out to the den
I guess when we were asleep that was your big play pen
You’d tip over the wastebaskets all through the house
And lurk in corners as if you’d seen a mouse
If we ever left plastic lying around
You’d chew it to pieces without making a sound
When Paul read his paper you sat right between his feet
You loved to curl up on the leather seat
Then you’d sit on the papers he’d put on the floor
And he’d throw the rest on your head as you begged for more
You’d fling yourself spread eagle on the rug
Waiting for someone to give you a hug
And then you’d lie there waiting to be brushed
This was something that was never rushed.
Paul would throw crumpled paper on the floor
And you’d play hockey with it for an hour or more
You were such a lady and groomed yourself well
You were fifteen years old but one could never tell
There are so many more things about you I could say
But really it would take all day

The day you left us was truly so sad
We felt your loss and we felt so bad
But you’ve made your journey to Rainbow Bridge
And you’re healthy again, and we are so glad
We’ll never forget you my beautiful TuTu

Nothing like a true friend in deed

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
