only a doll

only a doll

he was a doll
clasped to her chest
is where he wished to be
the place i am safest
i keep you safe from the shadows
beside you in the dark
let no nightmare own you when you sleep
hold a little tighter when your dreaming goes sour
never to abandon
know I'm always in your arms
playing, tumbling, giving you comfort
my eyes wide with ever new fear
that someday - you may slip away
from my very grasp

I'm only a doll
with big "I Love You" eyes
bleeding, burning
clasped to your chest
......remember...
I'm only a doll...
so small...
so fragile

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
