Secret Smile
do you smile with secret satisfaction, i do not know
and i stare into those soft cruel knowing eyes
so light, so absorbent
to take me into the depths of your very kind
where did you see weakness or was it my kindness
in the deepening darkness of the storm
my only consolation, i must dream over them
and now the loneliness closes around me
the comfort of you asleep in my arms
your nightly babbles that speak of no one
i watch you to sleep no more
to feel is to hide and run
to tell things that are not
to leave me waiting in the cold wet night
to yearn for your company
which will never simply be.
