    Papaw's Moon

"Papaw's Moon" is what my child-mind thought it to be.
That face in the silvery orb held such fascination for me.
Only at the farmhouse that was home to my beloved Papaw
Was that full moon ever visible to me.

The night was never frightening...only wonderful
With the blue velvet sky, the stars, and the faces of the moon.

    Being the adored grandchild,
They played along with my belief ---
That the full moon could only be seen
From that spot of ground that belonged to my Papaw.

I did become enlightened, and felt a little foolish
On learning that He makes a global appearance.
That feeling was overcome, but never the fascination
    Or the love and appreciation
For that phenomenon of the full moon.
As an adult, sometimes I look for excuses
    To walk in the night.
"Moon-gazing" is hard to schedule when adult life takes over.

Each time it takes me back to nights on that porch swing.
My little hand in his big one
Slowly swinging and watching that heavenly light
    With nature's backdrop of sounds....
    Peaceful music to my ears....
My definition of peace and stillness.

I enjoyed this poem. I may not know it as Pawpaw's moon, but as a child, I was always facinated with the " Man In The Moon." We'd lay on the grass and tell stories of how he got there. I still love to stargaze on those beautiful clear nights and wonder, is there anybody out there. Good poem, TS

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
