Phoenix

Not wanted here
But bound from within.
The life-giving blood flowing through my veins
Killing me with every breath I take.
What once ran hot and wild
Now runs cold and emotionless.
All guilt lost
And no faith found.
The ones there to help me
Turn their backs on me.
No longer visible.
With every setting sun my life expires;
No hope left for the forgotten.
But with every fiery dawn I am reborn
The dead ashes running through my veins reignited.
The passion for life I once thought dead
Pressing me on to prove them wrong.
I will not fail.
I can not fail.
I shall not fail.
I live my life for me.
Reborn every day from the ashes of despair;
I am Me.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
