Piece by Piece

Piece by piece, that's how you lose yourself.
Hardly noticable at first;
Until you go to put the pieces together,
And find out even the pieces you have left don't fit.

Finding yourself searching for distraction,
Something to occupy your mind.
Racing so far ahead,
You leave yourself behind

Some of the pieces, you don't even remember,
Yet others, well those come back.
They haunt you, and make you remember.
Letting you see exactly whay you fear,
Forming the bigger picture, one you know will never be clear.

You lose all sense of ambition,
As you cling to long gone tradition.
Cluthing remnants of the past,
In a self inflicted torture, that will always last.

Finding yourself a performer, in an empty shell.
Performing for others, in your personal hell.
Wanting to talk to someone,
But who are you going to tell?

Your' family? no, you abandoned them,
Your' firends? no, you were to busy to make them.
So once more, I find me talking to myself.
Taking my own advice, and putting it on the shelf.

So, I'll keep plodding through my creation,
Being, Warden, Inmate, and Guard during my isolation.
My memories, merging with my imagination,
Returning me to a long gone home, my salvation.

I keep Telling myself, I did it for the best,
But hey, it could be worse.
At least I'm not depressed.
But sometimes its good to burden my shoulders,
With the weight I've been carrying, around on my chest.

I kind of look at life from the opposite point of view. I see more and more pieces fitting as I get old.

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
