    "Happiness Within"

What is the true meaning of happiness?
when it's easy for me to live,
And it's not the occasions of receiving,
so much as the abilities to give.

Happiness to some forms of people,
is to have lots of money and no pride.
Well as for the securities in my case,
I can live without the better things in life.

Happiness is also a form of sharing,
like the love between two people that grows.
Yet, lacking this form of happiness,
can't often make one feel so alone.

How can one find such happiness?
When time is the element of success.
    It takes determination and appreciation,
of the little things that lead to the best.

    Happiness also reflects on beauty,
like watching flowers bloom in the Spring.
But there is also a different kind of beauty,
that with the naked eye can't be seen.

Happiness is the realization that no one is perfect.
It is the learning from mistakes,
Which are part of life, of course,
and understanding the risks one takes.

Happiness is the earning of respect,
from all kinds of people around you.
With this upper hand in the deck,
you come out a winner with no way to lose.

    Happiness is built around dreams,
that you have for the better things in life.
You must fight the battle of cruelty,
and have strength, hope and strife.

Yet, happiness does not mean anything,
unless you are happy with yourself.
    Without this form of happiness,
there is just not much of anything left.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
