    Rebel shout

    As fragrant peach blossoms
    blew about
the young men in gray went to battle with a rebel shout
beautiful day and the smell was sweet
as their bodies lay in blood soaked clothes
for a cause they felt to meet
they had only cotton and courage
and a fight in their souls
burning inside the average southern boy
    was a fire's hottest coals
every son in gray heard Dixie and carried it to his grave

I detest all wars! I once told a poet that some wars were necessary and he told me no wars are and all are senseless. I think that is true. I can see these men in my mind going to battle. I only hope that they all had a ready made stairway to heaven. Great descriptives! Hugz

Another good poem. Brings alive the civil war and all of the young men that were lost because of it.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
