    Resentments

    They bludgen the final nerve I still have with hooved heels
    as they insistantly Riverdance upon it
    in their audacious displays of complete and utter
    disregard and jealous contempt of me.
    What have I ever done that would render
    these stunts made, it seems, to teach me
    my proverbial lessons to which it is
    the professors who are, in fact, the ones
    needing to learn this condescending education?
    Put away the study guides and lets see
    if they can handle the pressures of a pop quiz
    aimed at them along with spit wads and rotten apples.
    The ones who seem to have the most to prove
    are the ones who should focus all this
    aggressive attention inward in order to fill
    the void that hollowed out their souls' souls.
    They just need to stop living vicariously through
    those of us who have what they never gained;
    those of us who are what they'll never become;
    and those of us who will be all that they
    can only dream to accomplish some day.
    This life is already proudly owned and operated
    by a very competent and capable human being.

    Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
