    rose

    every color is vibrant
    captivatingly tantalizing
must have some sort of poison
    none can look away
    they move closer instead
    i move the fastest
    high from the fragrance
    ignorant to the flaws
    eyes filled with petals
    glistening with morning dew
    natures finest art
    resting in my hands
    pressed against my lips
    eyes sealed in disbelief
i never saw the bloom fade
    never noticed the change
    until the blood poured
    only then
    did i feel the thorns
    only then
    as the light dimmed

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
