Sadness

Sadness
Is the wind and rain cutting my skin with no one there to protect me
It's the world in black and white and everything is dull that I see.
It's the flower in a hurricane trying to withstand the pressure, but unable
It's going to a restaurant, waiting for that person, but sitting alone at an empty table.

Sadness
Is the starless, cloudy, pitch black night
A windless sky and a kite on the sand longing to fly.
It's the author sitting idle but wanting so badly to compose
The small daisy in a field who just cannot grow.

Sadness
Is the thought of a lover who walked away from what seemed so perfect
A heart that's been through so much - too much - and now is wrecked.
It's smelling the shirt that smells like him - like his cologne
Singing love songs of romantic relationships, but sitting alone.

Sadness
Is me sitting here, crying because I'm lonely
All the while knowing that He should be my one and only.
It's that voice in my head saying, "You'll never know what it's like to be in love"
Going against the feeling in my heart which says, "He will come. Someday you'll find the one you've been dreaming of."

Sadness
Is seeing you smile and know that it can never be for me
Watching you leave and not being able to do anything.
It's hearing your voice, your beautiful voice, and having to turn away
For getting my hopes up won't help - I can't be with you, even if you could stay.

Sadness
Is the confusion that I must deal with constantly
This disarray that won't leave - it won't just let me be.
It's yearning to understand these things I'm feeling
But not being able to comprehend anything.

Sadness
Is a girl coming up with so many ways to describe it
But connecting with what she's writing, she can't stop - can't quit.
It's her writing all of this, but in the end - what good are these words?
Maybe a few people may see it and like it or find it rather absurd
that this girl is writing this much on
