Silence

  • I became insane, with rare intervals of horrible sanity

Silence

My friend visits me quite often,

I have grown accustomed to her.

Accustomed to her tranquil eyes

Her peaceful love and lullabies,

She has a very soothing voice

She never makes much noise.

At night, she is best

Nothing like the rest.

Unappreciated and misunderstood

She drives many minds mad

But I don’t find her so bad.

She finds ways to suit my mood.

No, together we are not sad

I welcome her grinning glad.

Just as other lonely souls should.

Her still tranquility suits my mood.

Thank you for your feedback

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
