TELL ME I'M OLD

TELL ME I'M OLD

Tell me I'm old
On my knees handily pushing dirt around the pine
tree roots
Tell me I'm old
Checking out computers at school to students
with ID's to please the anti porn gods
Tell me I'm old
The knots on my skull testify a nusaince was
insurrected
Tell me I'm old
Singing old gospel hymns in church
with friends
Tell me I'm old
As I fill the buckets with water for the
six dogs
Tell me I'm old
While I'm driving home in the dark
alone
Tell me I'm old

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
