    Ten Dollars

    You are not my hero,
    you are not saving me,
    nor are you expected to.

    You are so blinded by
    how much money
    you have,
    that you're paranoid
    someone will try
    to reach out and grab.

You sit there and act like you're all that,
yeah, the man with the money,
and a bank 'count that's fat.

Just because I don't have a car or a job,
    doesn't give you the right
to be rude and remind me
    that it's my problem
    I don't have any money.

I don't care if you had a dime to your name,
I would probably love you better that way.

    I don't need your thoughtless
    mightier-than-thou
    hurtful and hateful insults.

You just wait you mindless f@*#,
    when I'm done with school,
    you can screw a duck!

All I was asking for was
ten dollars for some cat food.
    not a house boat!

Really got the point across. The pain and humiliation are clear and so is the hope and pride. Good job

    good poem, very intense anger

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
