    The facets of Life

     In the years of your life
    You are told you are a diamond
    Sometimes we forget
    and feel like cubic zirconia
    That is how a heart works
    It can be shiny and cold
    or the people around you
    can make you wither and old
    One day your heart may break
    and you find the who is fake
    wasn't worth the heart ache 
    In the end you may find
    that you wasted time
    cause you have to love yourself
    before somenone can love you back
    and you will be the diamond
    instead of the cubic zorconia.

    i think your poem is overall successful. your rhymes both work and seem forced at other times. mostly towards the end i felt you veering away from a universal theme of self-discovery towards a more personal approach. i think maybe some more work needs to go into the last part. i did not like the rhyme of got and naught- very forced. maybe dividing the poem into stanzas would help.

    oh, and is the orange carat better than other diamonds? sometimes when we break up with someone we like to liken them to cubic zirconia ourselves. it is the way of the world, and your poem does make one think.
