THE GREAT, THE MAGNIFICENT, the pretender

Fools pretend
And I am a great pretender
Always pretending, pretending
But hellbent on finding...
My true self
There is, in spite of what you see on the surface
Deep beneath
A selfish
Yes, even reckless woman
But never bad
I must not think of myself as bad
I play games
But only, perhaps, to occupy my mind
And keep life adventurous
But with all my faults, in time
I'll blend in nicely with the rest of the world
And no matter what people may say
I am not bad
Not capable of any true feelings
Too busy with playing games
Playing too many roles in one day
Too refletive on the past to become real in the present
And better off being disillusioned now
While I am still young enough to not care

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
