The Quiet Child

Poem Commentary

This poem came to me after I attended a forum on adoption and abused children.

The Quiet Child

No one ever noticed her sitting there
The quiet child with eyes full of tears
NO one paid attention to her words
That were stuck inside and never heard
Did anybody see her standing there
Looking at them with her little brown stare?
Did anybody hear the child shout
Waiting for someone to let her out?
Did anyone bother to learn her name?
Did anyone notice she's just the same
As any other child in the room?
Except this one child is gone for good
The child that stands here all alone
Without any love, family or home
The child that sits here now is dead
Because no one bothered to lift their head
And see the abuse in front of their face
What has happened to the human race?

Too much of this goes on in the world. So sad...beautifully written

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.

Plato (BC 427-BC 347) Greek philosopher.
