    To My Child

I love you child, I'll never let harm come upon thee.
Before I let you hurt, I'll let harm come upon me.
See you have to know that I will be there for you.
My heart is always open so that love can pour through.
There's blood that pours through and keeps me going.
It keeps my strength up cause I know you're growing.
Though your world mainly consist of school and homework,
And hard imagination like tools and stonework.
There's fools and dumb jerks that will pass you in your life,
But for you I'll give mine up like Passion of the Christ.
I'll have to sacrifice--to keep you out of harms way,
So you can have what I never did,but preferred not the hard way.
I hope you make the smart play in this game called life.
I'm preparing you with the tools so you'll have less strife.
Cause time flies and you'll be grown before you know it,
And my preparation is like a wing, you'll have to learn to control it.
You have to get your soul fit for evils that await you.
Follow the right path so you'll know where it takes you.
Cause one day I won't be here and all that's left,
Is what I taught you throughout life; we all face death.
Just remember what I say baby; mark my words,
Put it in your mind like a scripture baby; Psalms;Proverbs.
And I love you child, I'll never let harm come upon thee,
Before I let you hurt, I'll let harm come upon me!!!

I was deeply touched. I too know and understand the true meaning behind being a parent. Not all of us are blessed with this knowledge.

Oh to be the child which under your angel's wing is guarded!

Awwww, what a lucky, blessed child. Seriously, that poem just made me feel all happy inside. Beautifully written. Did notice a couple grammar errors, forgotten commas, little things like that. Nothing big. Beautiful poem, seriously. It's like... Lovable. That's it, it's a lovely, lovable poem. Good job.

Very heartfelt my friend. A nice message. Life changes when we have kids. It's no longer me, me, me. It's now we, we, we. To be willing to sacrifice yourself for your child is truly Devine. What God intended. Love in its purest sense. Appreciate the reminder and sentiment. Thanks for sharing... Kevin

Love it. The true feelings of a great parent. We can only pray that the lessons we teach are learned and remembered well.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
