    Up Where You've Always Belonged

    My mind is eight feet
    Under the ground,
    My eyes
    Call for you;
    Did you escape again?
    Is paradise really that much
    Better
    Than the present devil that
    Massacres our souls
    One by one?

    I’m a head
    Shorter,
    A heartbeat
    Slower,
    A teardrop
    Richer;
    Come back.
    Every time it
    Fades,
    Rewrite it on your arm with a
    Sharpie:
    Let it
    Sink
    In.

    I feel the sweet
    Poison of
    Love
    And the strangling
    Tendrils of
    Regret,
    But you still
    Left in the end.
    This time,
    Don’t come back.

    You took some
    Paper
    And your old
    Switchblade,
    Treading the familiar path
    To the hills.
    You always did like to
    Lie on your back,
    So quietly,
    And just gaze
    Upwards;
    Your heart filled with
    Longing,
    Your eyes clouded by
    Sadness.

    If I look long enough
    I think I can see you,
    Shining with that
    Unearthly glow:
    A star.

    I sit back and read some of the poems here and after reading yours it so saddens my heart that someone so young seems to have given up too quickly,My life hasnt been perfect as you can see but that doesnt mean that life in itself is horriable,there's still many good times to live for.you just have to keep trying

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
