    Waist to Feet By:Shanaye West-Simato

As a child his mama didn't stop him
    He developed bad habits
Filling his belly all the way to the rim
Eating anything he could grab, from deer to rabbits
    He developed diabetes
It hurt to see him take all those tablets

    Ate himself to sleep
    Drank himself silly
Ate himself home to the sheep
Something needed to be done, really
    He was not warned
Until a disease he did reap...finally

    Sugar to the sky
    I watched him deplete
Blood pressure at an all time high
I watched him in his defeat
    That diabetes took his life
The coffin covered him from Waist to Feet

The imagery in this poem is very good. I liked the flow and the emotion undlying the words. What a great way to showcase the dangers of overeating. Great work!

This is deep and so profound. Very nicely done, and you tackled a subject that few people write about - diabetes, health, and obesity.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
