Poem Commentary

this is one of my favorite non-rhyming poems i've ever written. i wrote it a long time ago, and it reflects my views on unnecessary violence.....

WAR

Gangs cause war,
and war takes time,
as time takes lives,
lives wane and wax
in this game they call life.

Life is one big game mess up and, GAME OVER.
complete the level and you get more lives....
so war is a killing game..?,
is that what it is,
you kill others while toying with death yourself.

One day you"ll mess up and,
oops....
GAME OVER!!!...
what did you do to make things go so wrong?

Why do people continue to fight,
when all it does is cause war and strife,
all you gotta do is lay down  your weapon,
get your life back on track,
and get outta the gang.

Gangs cause war,
and war takes time,
as time takes lives,
lives wane and wax
in this game they call life.

Life is perhaps, metaphorically, a game of chance; as the chances we take and the effort we put forth in the artistic creation of our existence is a prelude to the tale written. Quite often war is viewed as a battle of weapon to weapon; and more so it is a battle within one’s own mind to overcome obstacles and achieve and attain the dreams we all hold in our search for happiness and contentment.

I like your honest blunt approach to this, no sugar-coating or metaphors. Nice job

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
