Well my face tells a story but most of you can't read it
Cause stereotypes labeled it but looks can be deceiving
Hurt, joy, love, happy, mad,sad
Permanent bags under my eyes from the days I never cried cause the hood made me this way!
Rough, tough,calloused, and cold
At age 12 I was more blunt than any of the philly's that the dope boys rolled
More cut than any switch blades that I seen slice flesh
And more numb than a drug dealers tongue that just tasted narcotics
The hood made me this way
Streetlights came on and we scattered like roaches when they hit raid
Scared of the dark cause of the horror it brought us
The triggers that were tickled and the giggle of gun shots around us

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
