A Coiled Knot

    A Coiled Knot

    A COILED KNOT

    A coiled knot,

    Clenched and flexed

    repeatedly.

    In the man’s brain

    Synapses fire in flashes,

    Like the hot liquid death

    from an Armalite.

    His irises flared,

    Keen focus on his target,

    The anger a bile

    Splashed in his stomach,

    A coiled knot

    Retreat means defeat,

And the odds no longer mathematical,

    And diluted visualization of victory.

    In the moment he felt,

    Every cell of his body,

He could feel the enamel of his teeth,

    Living in that moment.

    His fist clenched,

    A coiled knot.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
