Living In a Liquid Word

LIVING IN A LIQUID WORLD

A toe in the water,

lapping cold,

The ocean, the seaside of danger.

A crystal blue

surface serene

The cool breathe of God,

splashing your face,

a seaside breeze.

Below the calm, fathoms of unknown,

predatory dark hiding,

the hunters and the hunted,

and we dive into India ink darkness.

We tread in the element we cannot master.

Up to the waist,

Connected to the sand as it squishes through your toes,

until it drops off.

Davy Jones Locker,

Deep and invisible

And we are foreign.

We can master the technology,

But we can’t master the sea,

we don’t belong…

Except to put a toe into the water.

Thanks...I appreciate the read and nice comments...I'd love to read some of yours if you'd care to share them.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
