A Toast to my Life

is there a god to take care of our desires?

is there a devil to drag us from our goals?

how long do we look for that to take us higher?

before we slip and slide into the burning coals

can we live forever, the time that we are alive?

do we want to, when it is so hard to make it

a quality of life, more than just to survive

enough quality to make you not want to quit

i have had ups and downs, good times and bad

but not once have i ever wanted to give it up

living life on the edge sounds just as sad

and i have had enough to full up my cup

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
