BEAUTIES BEYOND COMPARE

BEAUTIES BEYOND COMPARE

Jesus you’re one among a thousand,

I run short of flowers to make you a garland,

The Lilly is missing and the Rose is gone,

One’s found in the Valley, the other in Sharon.

The Lilly in the Valley is pure and white,

Its radiance fills the darkest night,

The Rose of Sharon blooms so bright,

Its beauty captures even a heart without sight.

The Rose of Sharon has a peculiar fragrance

You can literally feel its very presence.

The Lilly of the valley so perfect to behold,

By the great and the small, the young and the old.

My garden reminds me of the Garden of Eden,

With the Lilly of the Valley and the Rose of Sharon.

Their beauty is far beyond compare,

‘Cause both these flowers are equally rare.

Somehow what stands out is the Rose of Sharon and the LIly of the Valley and I have both in my rock garden. I am sure that somehow your imagination will be the eyes that once again feast upon their beauty; and your nose will enjoy the scents you miss. Since you compare to the Garden of Eden it speaks volumes. Yep, we are all here because of the mishap in the Garden of Eden.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
