breath

cut so close to the bone
that the scars will never mend
i guess you took me for a fool because
that is what i am
pretending your dependency
was grounds to call you 'friend'
the path i chose has put me on
the merry-go-round again

i don't know which way's up
but then again, i never did.
either going up or coming down
i fell right off the grid
but whether any of this matters
is our wisest prophet's guess
and why the wickedness within us
isn't getting off our chest

while i hope the best befalls us
i don't keep my fingers crossed
it's no surprise to realize
we can't afford the cost
since the worst has yet to knock
i doubt i'll hold my breath and wait
because in everything i've learned
i'm still here,
nailed to my fate

Well .. I had to read this one a couple times .. It got me thinking bout a couple situations I found myself in. A lot to ponder. Nice write once again! :)

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
