    Caged Bird

A bird so unique and beautiful
Though she only hides her face,
    Radiating so much potential
    Sadly she only knows disgrace.
She reaches out screaming in a whisper
Simply wanting someone to hold her,
Haunting memories race in her head
She searches blindly for a shoulder.
Screaming tears fall down her cheek
She dreams of spreading her powerful wings,
But shame and regret don't allow her to speak
And she only seems to fly in her dreams.
She breaks the mirror in her hand
Looking for acceptance and praying personal control
Trying to destroy what she cannot stand,
Chasing after a life she may never know.
When she smiles she knows she fells relief
Her heart feels strong and promises kind words,
She wishes she could maintain the feeling
Blocking out all she has seen and heard.
She hides in the shadows of her cage
Trying to repossess all that they stole,
    Hiding from her uncontrollable rage
Building more and more walls to protect her soul.
Rocks are thrown at her and she is scared away
Her anger threatens to boil over the top,
So she fights harder every single day
To mend her wings and make them stop.
Fly to your destiny, pretty bird released
There is a new life to explore and begin,
Let your past remain among the deceased
Forgive yourself and let a new existence begin.
