First Born Son

First Born Son

I look at you my firstborn son,

Filled with pride, for all you’ve done.

There you stand over six feet tall,

Years of memories, we share them all.

A mothers love so tender and pure,

Will last forever, that’s for sure.

I nurtured you, and held you tight,

And soothed your cries into the night.

I walked the floor and stroked your brow,

Often stopping to question, how?

I would open my arms when the time was right,

And release you to; the transitional flight.

From a tiny infant so meek and mild,

To an innocent toddler, cheeky and wild…

An inquisitive boy finding his way;

To a studious teenager with lots to say.

You found a strength inside of you,

A self belief to carry you through,

A passionate vision for a better life,

To free yourself from trouble and strife.

You’re inspiring, intelligent, witty too,

Easily excelling in all that you do.

Respected by friends and family alike,

A far cry from, that little tyke.

It’s been a while since you left the fold,

‘Though our treasured memories I’ll dearly hold.

A mother’s love is yours for life,

Regardless of you taking a wife.

I was blessed the day God gave to me,

My new born baby; the first of three.

Without a doubt it’s plain to see…

What a wonderful son you’ve proved to be.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
