Why?

Why?

Many tears have passed this way,

Tainted memories of a bygone day;

Recollections of a sweet embrace,

A gentle touch as you stroked my face.

Moments lost in the passage of time,

Yet you pledged your life to share with mine;

I loved you then, I always will,

My heart is broken and my spirit still.

I close my eyes and hear your voice,

Those tender words I do rejoice;

Imagined image of your dazzling smile,

I have to stop and rest a while.

I catch my breath as I whisper your name,

It’s been a lifetime, could you feel the same?

So many questions, resolve is few;

I need to know… Do you think of me too?

The radiant flame of the candle light,

Reminiscent of love, once vibrant and bright,

Suddenly flickers and starts to die;

Just as your love did, I wish I knew why?

I carry your memory in my heart,

Shattered by grief when we had to part,

Life meanders on, for that is true;

My darling, there can never be… Another you!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
