Poem Commentary

Another song written for a songwriters challenge. This challenge was to write a song about forbidden love. I chose to write about the Amish belief that if you marry outside the belief, you can be shunned. to get a feel, the verses are in 4/4 and the chorus and bridge are in 3/4 to give it a dancing feel.

Forbidden Love

V 1

As they drove down the tree lined lane
Everything had appeared just the same
Back when simple life was all that she knew
All the days were long but the wants were few
She remembered

Build 1

Past the horse with it's little black carriage
Why would anyone think that a marriage
should be

Chorus

Forbidden Love, She went away
And found the man whose love made her sway
To a tune that is known to those that have grown
To Love

V 2

Now the feelings are strained and different
She drifts back to the days when she spent
Time with them
Mealtimes are no longer be close family times
For the shunning is strict It's then that she finds
That she'll miss them

Build 2

Why is it that something sent down from above's
not allowd by the people she loves
Must it be

Chorus

Forbidden Love, She went away
And found the man whose love made her sway
To a tune that is known to those that have grown
To Love

Bridge

Now forever her life will be
Seperate from theirs
Though she knows in her heart
That she's still in their prayers
But she'll never regret her decision
No she'll never regret her decision
To be

Final Chorus

In Forbidden Love, She went away way
And found the man whose love made her sway
To a tune that is known to those that have grown
To Love
Forbidden Love, She went her way
And found the man whose love made her sway
To a tune that is known to those that have grown
To Love

I enjoyed this write! I try to imagine it being sung to me. I'm not so familier with writing music, do you also write the chords and notes as it would be applied to the verses?

Thank you, I appreciate your comments. I don't have the chords written down persay, but you can hear the finished product at this link: http://community.ascap.com/_Forbidden-Love/audio/245647/27521.html

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
